Malayalam – Research

The Department became a full time research centre in the year 2018. Since its inception this department has been actively involved in research activities. In 1977 in connection with the celebration of the SreeNarayana Guru Year the department published a book on SreeNarayana Guru’s philosophy and literary contributions. The articles included in the book were written by renowned philosophers and writers in Kerala.
The department conducted M. Phil courses for college teachers in the academic year 1990-1991 and 1992-1993, Sixteen teachers from various colleges in Kerala University participated in the course. The course director was Dr. D. Benjamin, Prof and Head of the Department of Malayalam, University of Kerala. The teaching faculty comprised Dr. NaduvattomGopala Krishnan, (university College, TVM) Dr. LeelaKumari FMNC. Kollam), Dr. T. V Mathew (Rtd. Prof of Malayalam, Catholicate College, Pathanamthitta). There are at present three qualified Research guides in this department and 26 students doing research under their guideship. The present Principal Dr. R SunilKumar is a faculty of this Department.
Dr. N. R GopinathaPillai, who taught in the department for seventeen years, published authentic works on linguistics. Prof. KilimannorViswambharan, who is an authority on folklore studies, has done extensive research on folklores. He has published a number of books dealing with various aspects of the study of folklores. Retired teachers as well as teachers now in service have widely published articles in research journals and literary magazines.
Out of Nine teachers in the department Three are Ph. D Holders. The research topics of our faculty members deal with all genres of literature including drama, poetry, novel, short story, criticism and Kerala Culture. All teachers in the department have participated in seminars workshops, orientation and refresher courses.
