Philosophy Department
The department of Philosophy started functioning in the academic year 1979-80 with Prof. Anantha Raman as the Head of the Department. In 1980, Dr. P.C. Beena Kumari became the HOD. The department offers UG Programme in Philosophy. The B.A. The philosophy course was formally inaugurated by Prof. S. Sivaprasad, the then Principal of S.N. Women’s College, Kollam in the function presided over by Prof. P. I. Varghese, Principal of S. N. College Kollam. Apart from the UG course, the department offers a UGC-approved certificate course in Yoga and Stress Management. The Department offers undergraduate courses in Philosophy. The department was always at the forefront in academic and extracurricular activities ever since its inception, led by distinguished faculties like Prof. Anantha Raman, Dr. P.C. Beenakumari, Prof. V. Sunanda Kumari, Dr Sreedevi Ammal, Dr.P.T. Kurien, Dr.P C. Wilson, Prof Indulekha, Dr.C.Jayan, Prof. G.Balagangadharan, Prof.Bindu R., Dr.Latha T.S. The department was fortunate enough to get Nitya Chaitanya Yati as a faculty.
At present three professionally qualified, enthusiastic, student-friendly faculty members are present in the department. They are actively engaged in teaching and mentoring students. The First Batch of students for the final year B.A. Degree Examination appeared in 1982 with good results. Since then, every year, normally a batch appears for the final year University Examination and passed out with satisfactory academic output. In the academic year 1999 -2000 Bijoy Daniel of III B.A. Philosophy of this college bagged the first Rank in the final year B.A. Degree Examination of the Kerala University thereby bringing flying colours to our department. In 2018, Ms. Haritha secured the third rank in Kerala University. In the 2020 Kerala University Examination, Ms. Rakhi Mohan from the department secured the first rank.
