Department History

The Department of Historyhad its inception in 1948, the very year of the establishment of the College. Initially the Department of History was jointly functioning along with the Department of Political Science, until its bifurcation in 1981 as a two separate Departments.  Dr. P.C Alexander I A S, Civil Servant, Diplomat, Governor, Parliamentarian and Private Secretary to the Prime Minister of India Smt. Indira Gandhi was the first professor of History. The degree courses started in the year in 1981 and the Post Graduate course was started in the year of 1993.The Department engaged classes for Degree, Post graduate courses and as Subsidiary subjects of History for English, Economics and Political Science mains. The department has considerable student strength and has produced good results and several ranks at the university level. The first Head of the Department was Prof. Macky.B.Mistry was liberal and magnanimous to the cause of the Department. The Department of History is proud of its long list of achievements. The Students of the Department had been successively achieving University Ranks.NET/JRF/SET,KPSC,UPSC and other competitive examinations. Many of its successful students are serving in colleges across the state and also governmental and non-governmental bodies.

              • As part of student outreach programme, Career Guidance cell and IQAC of Sree Narayana college Kollam, has taken serious initiatives in conducting a series of webinars entitled, “Lend your ears to the words of experienced reality (LEER): An Orientation Webinar Series for Young Minds’’, with the aim of orienting current degree students for a bright future based on the experience of well-placed alumni students of this institution. The fourth webinar on this series had organized by Department of History in association with Career Guidance Cell and IQAC on 29/11/2020 at 11 am. The topic of this webinar is FUTURE PROSPECTS FOR HISTORY GRADUATES’ (LEER-04) The resource persons  are: Keerthana Santhosh, Assistant Professor, Department of History, St. Mary’s College, Thoothukudi Tamil Nadu, Irfan Mohammed. H, PG student Ancient History & Archaeology, University of Madras, Tamil Nadu.
              • The Depart ment of History in Association with 3(K) NC C Naval unit had organised Vijay Dsssiwas celebration on 17-December 2020. An invited lecture on the topic INDIO-PAK RELATIONS was derived by Dr. M.H Ramesh Kumar, Assistant professor, Maharaja’s College, Ernakulum.
