Biotechnology was initiated as a vocational course as a part of BSc Botany and Biotechnology degree course in 1998. MSc Biotechnology was introduced in this college in 2013.Thereby Department of Biotechnology was formed in 2019.

Cutting edge curricula along with the state-of-the-art facilities of the department will provide a solid foundation in the area of Biotechnology. Our dedicated and eligible faculties offer students an environment of excellent teaching, learning, mentoring and career guidance.

The department had the honour of producing 6 PG rank holders for past 7 years. UG course has also produced numerous rank holders since 1998 with two rank holders in the academic year 2019-2020. The department has 3 well equipped Biotechnology labs for UG and PG courses. They will also work at well-established Botany and Biochemistry laboratories.

Along with the laboratory practices we have collaboration with Amrita Virtual lab faculty where students can simulate experiments on screen and view animations of the experiments as well. There are two permanent faculty in the department now along with qualified guest lecturers. We had a total of 142 students in the past academic year. Students also actively participate in youth festivals, sports, NCC and NSS and many have won prizes.

      We conduct seminar/workshop /orientation programs/extension activities on current relevant topics ensuring complete participation of our students.

      2. One day national seminar on Metagenomics as part of the Multidisciplinary Annual Seminar Series AGORA-2020 on 20 February 2020
      3. One day national seminar on Let’s Learn how we learn conducted as part of the Multidisciplinary Annual Seminar Series AGORA-2020 on 26 February 2019.

      Virtual Biotechnology lab:

      S N College, Kollam and Amrita Viswavidyapeetham collaborated virtual lab facility. Students will be provided individual username and password to avail the virtual lab facilities.

      INFLIBNET:

      Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) Centre, Gandhinagar is an Autonomous Inter-University Centre (IUC) of University Grants Commission, New Delhi (Ministry of Education, Govt. of India). It is a major National Programme initiated by the UGC in March 1991.PG students of this college are given individual username and password to avail this facility.
